Despite a lot of time spent online trying to research the show's airdate, I was unable to do so. However, Jay Leno congratulates Robert on the "MTV award", which no doubt refers to the MTV Video Music Awards which were held on Sept. 5, 1986; in addition, the next thing I had recorded on my VHS tape was dated 10/27/86 (the 1986 World Series game 7 preview). Based on this info, the it appears this appearance was from Sept/Oct 1986 (unless it was a repeat of a previously-aired episode).
